Turnitin
Purpose
Turnitin is an originality checking and plagiarism prevention service that checks student writing for citation mistakes or inappropriate copying.
Description
When studnets submit papers/documents, Turnitin compares it to text in its massive database of student work, websites, books, articles, etc. Then you get a similarity report showing parts of the paper that may have been plagiarized. It is up to the instructor to verify the reported plagiarism and have a conversation. Turnitin does not guarantee plagiarism reports.
